The Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate, Ms. Gladys Kamasanyu, is nursing wounds and is bedridden at Kampala International Hospital(IHK) after she was attacked by unknown assailants around Green Hill Academy on Saturday.
The judiciary spokesperson, Jameson Karemani, confirmed the incident, which he said happened around Green Hill Academy where the Chief Magistrate had gone to pick the P.7 result slip for her daughter.
“It is true; the Chief Magistrate at Utilities Court-Buganda Road Ms. Kamasanyu Gladys was attacked at Green Hill Academy gate along Mbogo Road in Kibuli as she went to collect her child’s result slip for Primary Leaving Examination by unknown people. She was rushed to IHK and admitted in ICU,” Karemani said in a short statement.
It is alleged that the yet to be identified assailants made off with her personal effects, including her bag and mobile phone during the attack.
According to the statement from the judiciary, the attackers could have trailed the Chief Magistrate before pouncing on her near the school. Karemani added however that she is steadily improving.
“Police have started investigations, on the unknown assailants who are said to have trailed her on a boda boda before the said attack,” reads a police statement issued by the Kampala Metropolitan police Public Relations department. The case was reported to the Kabalagala police division.
“The victim was rescued by police officers attached to counter-terrorism and guards at Green Hill Academy,” the statement adds.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, said that; “The police will use nearby CCTV cameras to help them in finding the culprits and also in the entire investigation of the incident.”
It should be noted that Kamasanyu was in 2019 attacked by supporters of social activist Dr. Stella Nyanzi, who was battling a cyber-harassment charge against President Yoweri Museveni and other members of the First Family.
During the incident, Kamasanyu, who always preaches respect during her court sessions, was hit with a mineral bottle by Dr. Nyanzi’s irate supporters.
