The Police in Tororo District are hunting for a gang of kidnappers who early this week kidnapped a school girl and demanded for ransom worth several millions of shillings in order to release her.
Although the police managed to rescue the victim only identified as Hannah, during a joint operation with the Fly Squad Unit and Joint Security Organs, the kidnappers, who had confined the girl in a house in Tororo District, managed to flee and are currently in hiding.
The operation was conducted by the police and other sister security agencies after the parents of the victim approached them with videos of their daughter in captivity, which the kidnappers had shared with them.
In some of the footage the kidnappers sent to the victim’s relatives, one of the kidnappers is seen holding a knife below the victim’s chin, threatening to slaughter her like a chicken if the ransom is not paid in time.
Shortly after the operation in which the girl was rescued, Charles Twiine, the spokesperson of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), said on social media; “Police rescues Hannah from the hands of the Kidnappers that were asking for a Ransom. The pursuit for criminals still on.”
Twiine added that; “Victim unconsciously admitted in Tororo, and doctors trying to restore her life.”
He however didn’t divulge more details about the matter especially in regards to whether the victim’s parents paid the ransom or not and how much it was, although the police are still investigating the matter.
It should be noted that several girls have been kidnapped and murdered in the recent past, in most cases after their parents or relatives fail or delay paying the hefty ransoms that the kidnappers usually demand.
