The Police in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, have arrested one of their officers over allegations that he shot dead his lover, who was a primary teacher, after accusing her of cheating on him with other men.

Corporal Sam Olupo, who is attached to Katwe Police, is alleged to have shot  dead Sarah Nabukenya, a teacher at Buddo Preparatory School,  whom he faulted for refusing to  serve him her Sumbie yet she was dishing it out to other men.

Neighbours reveal that an irate Olupo stormed Nabukenya’s residence  and started quarreling with her, before he suddenly opened fire, killing her and injuring a neighbour who was trying to calm him down.

He later fled the scene with the AK-47 he had used to murder Nabukenya and although the police are yet to issue a statement about this incident, we have learnt that the culprit has since be arrested and is to be arraigned in court to face murder charges when investigations are completed.

Nabukenya’s body was later conveyed to the KCCA Mortuary in Mulago for postmortem as investigations in this gruesome murder continue.

Meanwhile, following the continued incidents of policemen shooting civilians, the Internal Affairs Minister Maj.Gen. Severino Kahinda Otafiire, has revealed that government is  working on modalities of taking police officers for refresher training, such that they can be trained in how to operate more professionally and ethically.

“We need to subject these  to ideological training. What brought peace to this country was the ideological training we received when we were still in the bush,” Gen. Otafiire said.

He added that;”The training helped each soldier to know exactly what to do and how to behave but sadly that is no more because most of the soldiers we have today are like robots.”

The Minister said that he is going to write a letter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) instructing him to implement the directive to ensure that all policemen and women are taken for refresher training.
