By Mable Nakibuuka

Several politicians belonging to the National Unity Platform (NUP), are very disgruntled and crying foul after the party leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine denied them  an opportunity to contest as NUP flagbearers in the 2021 General Election.

Many of these disgruntled NUP politicians  hoped to contest as Members of Parliament  and councilors in various districts but they claim that their hopes were dashed after  Bobi Wine and his NUP  refused to endorse them as flagbearers.

As a result, several of the politicians who were rejected by Bobi Wine’s NUP  have since vowed not to give up their political ambitions and threatened to contest as Independent candidates in next year’s election.

Although the list is long, here are some of the very many disgruntled NUP politicians who have no kinds words for Bobi Wine;

Eddy Yawe

A musician turned politician,  Yawe, despite being Bobi Wine’s elder brother, was rejected as NUP’s candidate   for the Kira Municipality Member of Parliament slot.  But instead of Yawe, Jimmy Lukwago, the former owner of Kira Young Football Club, was endorsed by Bobi Wine as the party flagbearer during next year’s election and Yawe is not happy at all about it.

Patricko Mujuuka

Similarly, media personality Mujuuka is spitting fire after he lost the slots for Nakifuma County to Fred Ssimbwa during the NUP nomination and he too has no kind words for Bobi Wine .

Muhammad Ssegirinya

Despite getting involved in a lot of NUP activities and protests, Ssegirinya’s defiance didn’t help him when time for nominating  the NUP candidate for  Kawempe North  came. He wasn’t named for the slot after the party echelons said they are still reviewing all potential candidates. Since he hoped to sail through unopposed,  Ssegirinya, who has been beaten by police several times while furthering the NUP agenda, is not happy at all with Bobi Wine.

Sadat Walukagga aka Kalifah Aganaga

Word reaching us has it that singer Aganaga has since crossed to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) after being denied the chance to contest on NUP ticket for the Rubaga South MP constituency. According to a list of flagbearers released by NUP on Tuesday, the position is still being be reevaluated.

Latif Ssebagala

At first he had been nominated for the position of Kampala Lord Mayor on NUP ticket but Ssebagala shocked the country when he pulled out at the last moment. Bobi Wine’s NUP later nominated Ssebagala’s sister-in-law Nabilah Naggayi Ssempala as NUP flag bearer for the same position but since then  they have not nominated Ssebagala for any position, not even as candidate for Kawempe North MP seat, where he is the incumbent.

Kenneth Paul Kakande

He is a longtime opposition politician and DP Bloc strongman, whose grip on Nakawa West slipped into the hands of  NUP mouthpiece, Joel Ssenyonyi. Kakande has since been left spitting venom at Bobi Wine and the NUP leadership, accusing them of foul play.

Denis Katongole Omutongole

A popular media personality and former husband of veteran journalist Tendo Tabel aka Lady Titi, Katongole   also missed out on the list. The Baale County ticket has since been given to Charles Tebandeke.

Joan Lule

This one is a Top TV scribe who also faced the NUP sword after missing out on Mpigi Woman MP party ticket Teddy Nambooze has since been endorsed as the NUP flagbearer for the same position.

Allan Sewanyana

He is the Makindye West MP, having assumed the position as a result of overwhelming support from Bobi Wine’s People Power pressure group, which has since fused with NUP.  However,  after exhibiting a lukewarm approach towards NUP activities in the recent past,  Sewanyana was not endorsed as flagbearer to contest for the same position in next year’s election and is one of those vowing to contest as an independent candidate.

Bashir Kazibwe

This one is another media personality who a few months back quit his job on NBS TV after expressing his political ambitions to contest for the Kawempe South MP seat on NUP ticket. However, Kazibwe got the shock of his life on Monday this week after his name didn’t appear on the list of approved candidates to contest on NUP ticket.

Moses Kasibante

Until a few months back, Kasibante, who is the Rubaga North MP, was a very vocal opposition politician and many voters in his constituency hope he would contest on NUP ticket. However, Bobi Wine and group have not yet endorsed Kasibante, after they said that his position is being reviewed until the most suitable candidate is got. Kasibante is one of the disgruntled politicians vowing to contest on Independent ticket in case they are not nominated by NUP.
