Match day two of the Premier League came with much anticipation from both teams and the fans. Those who got wins in the opening week of this 2020/21 Premier League were looking for momentum, and those who lost were looking for redemption.
In that line, Arsenal, who finished the opening weekend on the top of the table had to dig deep into the second half to get the 2-1 win, with their young striker Eddie Nketiah scoring in the 86th minute to give The Gunners the win. Michail Antonio’s equaliser in the first half had cancelled out Alexandre Lacazette’s opener.
Sadio Mane scored a brace at Stamford Bridge to ensure Liverpool get all the three points in what was a sub-par performance from Chelsea who have spent big in the transfer season.
Manchester United, who were playing their first match of the season were stunned by Crystal Palace who capitalised on United’s shaky defence to put three past them. Donny van de Beek’s debut goal was not enough to bring Man Utd back in the game as their OB Wilfred Zaha scored twice to put his former employers into more opening day misery.
Tottenham Hotspurs and Everton scored five each against Southampton and West Bromwich Albion respectively.
