The police are investigating the cause of fire that broke out at Moka Petrol Station in Kitala Zone, Katabi Town Council in Entebbe on Monday evening, which destroyed property worth billions of shillings.
The fire burnt fuel pumps, a supermarket, vehicles and other valuable property that was at the fuel station, although no casualties were recorded.
Fire fighters from the Police fire brigade were called to the scene by the proprietors of the fuel station but by the time they reached the scene a lot of irreparable damage had been caused by the fire.
They however managed to fight the fire until they put it out such that they could prevent further damage.
“Another fire outbreak: Moka energy petrol station in Kitala Entebbe Road is on fire. Police fire fighters are currently on ground battling with the flames,” an eyewitness tweeted when the incident had just happened.
A few minutes later, Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Polly Namaye tweeted; “Police at Entebbe Municipality have today at around 1700hrs put out a fire that broke out at Moka Energy Petrol station located at Kitala Garuga Road. Two fire tenders arrived at the scene and were able to contain the fire from spreading.”
However, although the cause of the fire outbreak at Moka Petrol Station is yet to be established, it came a day after a destructive fire ravaged Makerere University’s main Administration Block (Ivory Tower), which went up in flames over the weekend.
The police are still investigating the causes of both fires and we shall bring you updates when they issue official statements about the same.
