The family of fallen businessman Francis Xavier Kitaka, 86, who died over the weekend, has revealed that he was a victim of the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Kitaka who was the founder of Cipla Quality Chemicals LTD, the manufacturers of ARVs and other drugs, and the managing director MTK Uganda Limited, passed away on Saturday, after living a fruitful life.
Although earlier reports indicated that he had died of cancer, his family issued a statement on Sunday notifying the public that Kitaka had died of COVID-19 and that he was to be accorded a scientific burial.
The statement reads in part thus;
The Kitaka family with deep sorrow announces the death of their beloved Brother, Father, Uncle, Grandfather Mr. Francis X.S Kitaka (Sr).
Mr. Francis X.S Kitaka Sr. succumbed to COVID-19 on Saturday 12th September 2020 at 10:40 Am at Mulago Hospital.
Mr. Francis X.S Kitaka was a Biochemist, Animal Health Expert, Industrialist, Businessman, Philanthropist and devout Catholic. He was the Chairman of MTK Uganda Ltd, Chairman Emeritus of Cipla Quality Chemicals Industries Ltd, Chairman Tinosoft Ltd among others.
Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, the program for his send-off will be as below;
Monday 14th to Thursday 17th September 2020

Friday 18th September 2020
Requiem Mass at Rubaga Cathedral starting 2:00PM
Sunday 20th September 2020
Burial at Bunamwaya off Zzana-Wakiso starting at 11:00Am.
Due to Ministry of Health COVID-19 restrictions burial will be Private.”
