A Ugandan soldier on Tuesday night committed suicide shortly after shooting his lover whom he suspected of cheating on him dead.
The soldier identified as private Dickens Nuwagaba, who was attached to the Special Forces Command (SFC) an elite force that guards President Yoweri Museveni and the First Family, reportedly shot himself dead after shooting his lover identified as Patience Kamarembo thrice in the chest.
The unfortunate incident was revealed by ASP Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region police spokesperson, who revealed that prior to the shooting the couple first got involved in a vicious quarrel after Byamukama accused Kamarembo of cheating on him with other men whenever he is away on duty.
Kasasira revealed that the shooting occurred Tuesday evening in Rugaga trading centre, Kikatsi sub-county, Kiruhura district.
“Nuwamanya shot Kamarembo thrice in the chest at a local pub in Rugaga trading centre, killing her instantly before turning the gun on himself,” Kasasira said.
He added that the police was alerted and they quickly responded by dispatching a team of detectives to the scene of crime, who recovered an AK47 rifle that Nuwamanya had used to commit the double crime.
An eyewitness at the scene identified as Moses Arisiima, said Kamarembo was operating a bar in Rugaga but trouble arose after Nuwamanya told her to close it such that they could go home for a sex marathon but she refused.
Arisiima added that when Kamarembo refused to close the bar, a quarrel ensued between her and Nuwamwanya that soon resulted into a fight and the consequent shooting.
Kamarembo’s friend Agnes Mugiranenza, said that Nuwamanya was fond of accusing her of cheating on him with other soldiers.
The bodies of the deceased were later conveyed to Kiruhura Health Center IV for postmortem as investigations into the gruesome incident continue.
