“The Main Building – Ivory Tower has caught fire. The fire brigade is on ground,” the Management posted of MUK social media platforms adding that; “The Police Fire Brigade is trying to put out the fire which has now covered almost half of the roof. It’s a trying moment for us.”
We have since established that property worth hundreds of millions of shillings was destroyed by the fire, although what caused the inferno is yet to be established.
By the tile of filing this story the police had managed to put out the fire and had commenced investigations into the unfortunate incident although no casualties had been reported yet.
The MUK Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe is yet to issue a statement about the fire outbreak and extent of damage to property that it caused.
However, this unfortunate incident came at a time when the University was closed due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown and eyewitnesses contend that it would have been a totally uglier situation had the students been around.
