Residents of Kyaliwajjala, in Wakiso District, were gripped with untold on Monday morning after a pilgrim who was walking with other collapsed and died a few meters from Namugongo Martyrs Shrine.
According to preliminary police investigations, the deceased has since been identified as Jackline Natukunda, who was a pilgrim from West Ankole diocese.
At the time of her death Natukunda was heading together with others to the Anglican Martyrs’ Shrine in Namugongo.
Following Natukunda’s sudden death, the police were quickly called to the scene to remove the body from the roadside, before they conveyed it to Mulago Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem as investigations into what could have caused her death continue.
It should be noted that pilgrims are walking from all parts of Uganda and other countries around the world to commemorate the Uganda Martyrs Days, which will be held on Friday June 3rd, 2022.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, at around 4:00Pm, a speeding vehicle knocked a pilgrim dead at Akageti, in Kiruhura district.
The deceased, identified as Joventa Tukahirwa, 54, was among 44 Christians from Kitwe Catholic Parish in Ntungamo walking to Namugongo.
