At this rate, no one is safe in Uganda, because those mandated by law to protect Ugandans seem to have decided to turn their guns on to helpless civilians!
News coming in indicates that a police officer in Kisoro District has been arrested over allegations of shooting an Indian investor dead on Friday.
It is alleged that on being arrested, the police officer identified as Eliod Gumizamu, said he was contracted by one Commando 8 to shoot dead Patel Kunjaj for Shs20m.
The deceased, Patel, was working as a salesman at TULJE Enterprises in Kisoro Municipality, a business venture that also doubles as the MTN Telecom main agent in Kisoro District.
Sources in the area reveal that the killer cop is an Field Force Unit (FFU) officer attached to Nyakabande Refugee Transit Camp in Nyakabande Sub-county.
It is alleged that Gumizamu hid his gun in a sack, walked into the shop where Patel was working, first pretended to be a customer but later pulled out the AK-47 rifle and sprayed him with bullets.
After the shooting, Gumizamu attempted to run but was rounded up by boda-boda riders who disarmed and clobbered him thoroughly, only for him to be rescued by cops from Kisoro Police Station, who took him into custody.
Meanwhile, Patel was quickly rushed to St. Francis Hospital, Mutolere, where he was given medical attention but later in the evening succumbed to the gunshot wounds.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Police spokesperson reveals that investigations into the gruesome murder are already ongoing with intent to identify the person who contracted Gumizamu to murder Patel such that they can both be arraigned before court to face murder charges.
The police also want to establish the motive of this horrible murder that has since left investors and locals in Kisoro municipality in utter shock.
