A student of Uganda Christian University (UCU) has Friday perished in a horrible accident that occurred in Kamonkoli Village along the Mbale-Tirinyi Road.
Alex Gidudu Khauka,24, who was pursuing a Diploma in Information Technology, and his father Gidudu Siraj, 50, both died after the vehicle they were traveling in, a Toyota Noah, crashed in a stationary truck that had been parked along the roadside.
Another UCU student identified as Mukoya Barbra and a lady identified as Wegosasa Ketty, 40, who were both traveling in the same vehicle with the deceased, are currently admitted at Mbale Referral Hospital in a critical condition.
It is said that at the time of the accident, the deceased were traveling to the UCU main campus in Mukono District ahead of the University’s graduation ceremony today.
A statement from the Budaka Traffic Police indicates that the accident involved motor vehicle registration number UAY 740k (Toyota Noah) that rammed into a stationary broken down motor vehicle registration number UAS 427P (Sino truck), killing one on spot, while the other victim died shortly after being admitted to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.
The police reveal that the deceased were all residents of Nasasa village, Busambe parish, Bumbobi sub-county in Mbale district and that they were travelling to UCU for a graduation ceremony.
The bodies of the deceased have since been conveyed Mbale city mortuary pending postmortem examination as investigations into the matter continue.
