The newly elected Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among has kicked off her tenure with swag after she ‘imported’ a throne-like canopy under which she sits while presiding over sessions in the august house.
Hon. Among unveiled he throne during the parliamentary session that was sat on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 and she is to sit under the structure for the rest of her tenure at parliament.
It should however be noted that Among has entered history as Uganda’s first Speaker ever to sit under a throne, which will continue until her tenure expires.

Among, who was elected Speaker a few days ago, takes over from the late Jacob Oulanyah, who was buried last week.
Sources at parliament reveal that shortly after being elected Speaker, Among reportedly rejected Oulanyah’s office and asked the Clerk to Parliament to find her another office, saying that she is scared of the deceased’s office.
But, many legislators and members of the public have since been left wondering how much the throne cost the Speaker because it is said to be worth millions of shillings, and whether she bought it using her personal money or using funds off the parliamentary budget.
