National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine, who is under house arrest, has resorted to eating corn and vegetables for survival.
Bobi Wine, who was President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s stiff competitor in the recently hotly contested presidential election, has been under house arrest together with his wife and some family members since January 14th, 2021.
The security personnel that cordoned off Bobi Wine’s home in Magere have since blocked all visitors from seeing him and only allowed a few of the lawyers on his legal team to meet him on Wednesday, although the meeting was private and no journalists were allowed.
According to Mathias Mpuuga, the NUP deputy Vice President, the security personnel have since subjected Bobi Wine and his family members to severe starvation after blocking them from going out to purchase food and refusing their friends who wanted to donate to them food access to his residence.
Mpuuga revealed that Bobi Wine and his family members have since resorted to dire means of survival by eating crumbs, a few vegetables and maize corn they had grown in their backyard garden.
Despite the fact that the Electoral Commission declared president Yoweri Museveni as the winner of the election, Bobi Wine rejected the election results and has since vowed to go to court to challenge Museveni’s presidency, asserting that he has enough evidence proving that the election was marred with malpractices.
However, efforts to secure a comment from the police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango for an update about Bobi Wine’s were futile since he couldn’t be reached through his office lines by press time.
