By Ivan Mwine

The stiff tension mounting between the governments of  the  Democratic Republic Of Congo (DR Congo) and that of Rwanda following a diplomatic row between the two countries that has been raging on for months now.

The tension between the two countries has culminated into the suspension of all flights from Kigali to Kishansa by the DR Congo government.

The suspension of the flights from Kigali was confirmed by a statement from the management of RwandAir, which is Rwanda’s national carrier, which reads in part thus;

“Following the decision of the Government of the Democratic Republic of the  Congo to suspend RwandAir flights, RwandAir has decided to cancel all flights to Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, and Goma with immediate effect.

Statement from the management of RwandAir

We are sorry for the inconvenience and disruption this may cause to our customers and we will waive change of reservation fees and offer reissues or refunds for those affected.

We will provide updates when we have them and be in touch with our customers to provide assistance where we can.

RwandAir always puts the safety and security of its customers and crew as their number one priority…”

It should however  be noted that the tension arises from the accusations circulating  to the effect that some elements in Rwanda are  conducting unauthorised militaristic operations in Eastern DR Congo without the consent of the government in Kinshasa.
