2020 is not slowing down on binging us unexpected events.
In the English Premier League, Southampton beat Newcastle last night 2 – 0 to go to the top of the league for the first time ever.
This was Southampton’s third consecutive win in the league this season, but their fifth win in eight matches taking them to 16 points, level with defending champions Liverpool albeit with a better goal difference.
Che Adams and Stuart Armstrong struck in each half at St Mary’s to seal the victory for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men.
The Saints surely love it at the top and we can’t blame them because who doesn’t? They have since joked about stopping the count so they win the league; just like US President Donald Trump wanted to “stop the count” so he could win the US election.
As everyone else seems surprised by Southampton’s form, their manager Ralph Hasenhüttl is not.
“I just told the guys in the dressing room that we invested so much in this together. We made so many big steps forward. We are now a strong side. That is not a coincidence.” Hasenhüttl said in a post-match interview with Sky Sports.
He added, “It’s amazing what my team is doing. Congratulations to everybody around the pitch and the team. It is amazing. Everybody was on the highest level. It is a little scary what we are doing at the moment to be honest but not surprising when I see what we are working on.
