Group A: Uganda Hippos 2 – 0 Mozambique
Uganda’s U-20 national team nicknamed Uganda Hippos kicked off their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) U-20 campaign with a 2 – 0 victory against Mozambique.
The match was the opener of Group A, that was played at the Stade Olympique, Nouakchott City, Mauritania on Monday, February 15, 2021.
Police FC striker Derrick Kakooza and second-half substitute Steven Sserwadda, a midfielder from Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) FC, scored Uganda Hippos’ goals after the first half had ended goalless.
Kakooza’s strike was a confidently taken penalty kick that was awarded to Uganda following a handball call by the referee.
Kakooza then turned to provider in the 85th minute when he set up Sserwadda after a well-delivered cross from the left by Najib Yiga.
The 17-year-old Uganda Hippos forward Isma Mugulusi was named man of the match. Uganda will return to action on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 against the West African footballing nation of Cameroon.
