The death toll people who died in the floods that ravaged Mbale District has risen to 23, although rescue parties organized by locals are still searching for missing people.
Earlier a statement by ASP Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Public Relations Officer(PRO) indicated that five people had been confirmed to have died.

However, latest reports indicate the number victims has since risen from 5 to 23 after more bodies were retrieved.
Locals reveal that 10 dead bodies were retrieved from a Super Custom that was swept by floods along Nabuyonga River, Namakweke Sub-county.

The deceased also include Andrew Mwangale, who was an employee with Baylor Uganda, who used to work at IntraHealth with Diana Nekesa, who also died in the floods.

Reports indicate that the two were traveling in a black Subaru car that was also swept off the road by floods at Nabuyonga bridge.
Meanwhile, the Police and Red Cross in Mbale are still searching the debris for any possible survivors or other bodies and a conclusive report about the catastrophe shall be released after investigations being completed.
