UPDF Finally Speak Out On Attack By Congolese Rebels

The Uganda People Defence Forces (UPDF) have at long last opened up about the  attack that was carried out by  Congolese rebels on a UPDF Unit in Zeu, Zombo District on Friday morning.

ExposedUganda.com today published a story in which we revealed how the Commander of Land Forces (CLF) Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba had confirmed the attack, before revealing that the army had however repelled the rebels.

ExposedUganda also revealed  how the UPDF was yet to issue an official statement about the matter and that the army spokesperson Brig. Gen. Flavia Byekwaso could not be readily reached for a comment about the matter.

Well, shortly after we published the article, Brig. Gen. Byekwaso came out to give a tentative report about this deadly report that left one UPDF soldier and at least four rebels put out of action.

According to Byekwaso, the attackers were 20 in number and has disguised as forest rangers but the UPDF managed to overpower and arrest some of them.

“Today at 6:00am, UPDF unit at Zeu in Zombo repulsed an attack by 20 men disguising as forest workers. We captured 02, put out of action 04 & got 01 gun plus bows/arrows,” Byekwaso tweeted Friday afternoon.

She added that; “Sadly, we lost 01 soldier (MHSRIP). The group is suspected to be criminals associated to DRC’s CODECO rebels.”

Confirming the attack in a tweet, Lt. Gen. Kainerugaba said; “….Yes, our unit in Zeu, Zombo District was attacked by Congolese rebels called CODECO (Cooperation for the Development of Congo). Our boys performed brilliantly and repulsed the attackers.”
