War Erupts As Suspected Smugglers Attack, Burn URA Offices

A vicious war erupted in Koboko town on Wednesday afternoon after a group of suspected smugglers attacked Uganda Revenue Offices and destroyed property worth millions of shillings, before burning the building.

Sources in the area  told this website that the war erupted after URA operatives allegedly knocked dead a suspected smuggler who was trying to flee in a bid to evade arrest.


Following the incident, people suspected to have been colleagues of the dead smuggler invaded the URA offices in Koboko town demanding for the operatives who had knocked their colleague dead.

Eyewitnesses reveal that a standoff ensued between guards at the URA offices and the irate mob that included boda-boda riders known to the deceased, which soon resulted into a scuffle and confrontation between both sides.

The confrontation ended up into a vicious war that saw the guards overpowered by the mob and URA staff clobbered to pulp while others fled for their dear lives.

The mob later vandalized the URA offices, destroyed the property they found there before setting the building ablaze.

The police were called to the scene but by the time they reached the attackers had fled with valuable property and documents from the URA offices.

By the time of filing this article the police had not yet issued a statement about the attack although they had launched investigations into the matter in a bid  to bring the culprits to book.

The management of URA is also yet to issue a statement about this unfortunate incident.
